The trail itself has three Southern Termini and each one has their supporters and detractors. The “official” southern terminus point is Crazy Cook Monument, but this spot was just recently designated by the CDTA. Prior to this most individuals used the border with Mexico in Columbus, New Mexico. It is a short trip from here to Palomas, Mexico and the southern terminus of the Continental Divide Trail. Another terminus is Antelope Wells, New Mexico. Each terminus has their supporters and detractors, but everybody agrees no matter where you start or end if you complete the entire Continental Divide Trail you are a thru-hiker with bragging rights to last a lifetime.
